The Old Testament Scriptures shares with us of the history of Israel becoming a people and then becoming a nation. God was leading the nation of Israel to share the larger story of God’s plan to redeem the world through Jesus. Israel was God’s plan to reveal Kingdom of God. Israel wanted a King. In 1&2 Samuel we see this shift from a theocracy to a monarchy. The first two kings of Israel were anointed by God to lead. However, they both led in two completely different ways.
